Privacy Policy

Last updated: 29 June 2026

The short version. Foliark collects no data. There is no account, no cloud, no analytics, and no tracking. Your scans, the recognized text, the search index, and all settings stay on your device. The only time Foliark touches the network is to process the optional one-time Pro purchase through Apple.

Who we are

Foliark is an offline document scanner developed by Markus Solbach, operating under the label BFG Works, based in Zürich, Switzerland. For any privacy question you can reach us at foliark@bfg-works.com.

What data we collect

None. Foliark has no user accounts and no servers. The documents you scan or import, the text recognized from them (OCR), the full-text search index, your topic/person taxonomy, and your app settings are stored only on your device and are never transmitted to us or to any third party.

Everything is processed on your device

All of Foliark's intelligence runs locally:

None of this requires a network connection. You can use Foliark entirely in airplane mode.

No analytics, no tracking, no ads

Foliark contains no analytics SDKs, no crash-reporting that sends data off your device, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. We do not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) and Foliark never shows an App Tracking Transparency prompt, because there is nothing to track.

The only network connection: your purchase

Foliark offers a single optional one-time “Pro” unlock. That purchase is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles the payment and your billing details under Apple's Privacy Policy. We (BFG Works) receive no personal data from the transaction — no name, email, address, or payment information.

Device permissions

Foliark asks only for permissions it needs to work, and uses them locally:

Backups stay yours

Foliark can create an encrypted backup of your vault, but only when you explicitly choose to. The backup is a single file encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a key derived from a password you set. You decide where it is stored (the Files app, an external drive, or a cloud service of your choice). We never receive, see, or store this file, and the password is never sent anywhere.

When data leaves your device

Your documents leave your device only when you explicitly export or share them — for example using the iOS share sheet, printing, or saving to another app. In those cases the data goes to the destination you choose, governed by that destination's own privacy terms. Foliark is not involved beyond handing the file to iOS at your request.

Children's privacy

Foliark is a general-purpose productivity app and is not directed at children. In any case, it collects no personal data from anyone.

Your rights (GDPR / Swiss FADP)

Foliark is designed so that we never act as a controller or processor of your personal data — we simply never receive it. Your documents and their contents remain under your sole control on your device. You can review, change, or permanently delete them at any time within the app, and deleting the app removes all of its data from your device. Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to retrieve, correct, or erase on your behalf. If you are in the EU/EEA you retain your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and if you are in Switzerland under the Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP); you may contact your local supervisory authority. For anything related to Foliark, email us at foliark@bfg-works.com.

If this policy changes, we will post the updated version on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
